Rotating an object with VR controller

I need to be able to point my HTC Vive controller laser at an object and rotate it somehow. Here is an example of what kind of behaviour I want to achieve:


I don't have a specific way I need to achieve this, so it might be easiest to implement touchpad swiping or something.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
