In brief, Im currently using the SteamVR_Fade.View( ); function to project a overlay on the users camera. The process being fade.view, loadAsync("Level", additive), if level hasLoaded, unfade.view. It works for the most part, if the users adds any rotation to the hmd physically or movement; the overlay will begin to lag and small clips of white come into view along the edges of the view.
