Unity 5.5 VR and native controller visualization

I've downloaded Unity 5.5 and read release notes were in the changes section I can see:
  • VR: Oculus Touch Controllers and Oculus Remote now present themselves as standard joysticks.
  • VR: OpenVR controllers now present themselves as standard joysticks.
I've launched a blank scene and the camera is following my head movements but my Vive controllers are not visible. Anyone knows how to enable them? Do I still need SteamVR plugin?
